And all that Jazz Jazz Series tickets currently on sale to the public!
The Frederick Brown, Jr. Amphitheater is pleased to announce its first-ever Jazz Series. In striving to provide quality entertainment to the community, we have chosen to add another musical element to the Amphitheater repertoire - Jazz. By bringing in another dimension for listeners, we hope to draw those who may not be interested in the Summer Concert Series or who have never heard of us before. We have assembled a distinguished and diverse performance line-up for the series that will incorporate all styles of Jazz, catering to every type of Jazz lover. The inaugural series will kick off on Saturday, August 9 at 8 p.m., with Grammy winner Lou Rawls. Praised by Frank Sinatra as having "the classiest singing and silkiest chops in the singing game," Rawls has crooned such hits as "At Last," "Fine Brown Frame," and "Room With A View" over the years. 2002 Jazz Vocalist of the Year, Carol Welsman, will headline the second show on Saturday, September 6. Carol just released "The Language of Love" CD in the United States and is praised for her contemporary interpretation of jazz and her own original material. Carol has wooed audiences around the world with "Swing Ladies Swing," "Lucky To Be Me," and "A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square." On October 11, one of the most famous instrumental ensembles will conclude the series with a mixture of various jazz, fusion, and R&B elements into a sound uniquely their own. Spyro Gyra celebrates twenty-five years of hits such as "Morning Dance," "Feelin' Fine," and "Your Touch" which showcase the group's spirit of improvisation that draws upon the jazz tradition. Tickets may be purchased at the Amphitheater's office located at 201 McIntosh Trail, by telephone at 770-631-0630 or fax at 770-631-0430. Series tickets are $80 for stadium and lawn seats, $600 for Picnic Tables, and $800 for Gold Tables. There is a $3 handling fee per order. Tickets for the individual concerts will go on sale on Tuesday, July 8. The cost for individual tickets will be $35 each. For more information, call 770-631-0630.
