Spivey Hall has world renowned musicians taking stage this weekend By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Spivey Hall, Clayton College and State University's world class concert hall, has a big weekend planned with organist Hector Olivera slated to perform on both the Spivey Hall Albert Schweitzer Memorial Organ and his own Roland Atelier 3000, while "Blue Lou" Donaldson brings his jazz quartet to the venue on Saturday. Olivera last performed at Spivey Hall close to three years ago. The Argentinian organist began his career at a young age. By the age of four he was the appointed organist for the Church of the Immaculate Conception and by the age of six he had entered the Buenos Aires Conservatory. He accepted a scholarship to the Julliard School of Music at the age of 18 and began his concert career three years later. He has since played on five continents in some of the most notable venues in the world, including Royal Albert Hall and St. Paul Cathedral. Donaldson is a saxophonist who played with jazz legends such as Thelonious Monk, Horace Silver and Milt Jackson which led to a long and productive career that has spanned seven decades. Last year he released "Lou's Blues" and this weekend he will bring his famous quartet, which includes Dr. Lonnie Smith, a legend in his own right, on the Hammond B-3 Organ. In other Clayton College and State University music news, the students of the Viva Voce summer enrichment program will perform a free concert at the Piedmont College Center for Worship and Music in Athens on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The choir, which features girls ages 10-14, has been working with Dr. Martha Shaw on compositions for children's choirs as well as new music composed expressly for this occasion.
