When one hears that the creators of the popular musical "Les Miserables" teamed up to create a modern adaptation of Puccini's "Madam Butterfly," one might think that the result would be the most boring musical ever created. They couldn't be further from the truth. "Miss Saigon," which plays at the Fox Theatre through June 29, was the result and it is an energetic, moving love story set in 1975 as Saigon fell.

The story focuses on Kim, a young Vietnamese woman and Chris, a Marine Guard at the US Embassy in Saigon. The two have a romantic tryst, but when Saigon falls Chris leaves the country. He returns a few years later. He is married but he finds Kim has had their child and Kim is determined that when Chris leaves again he will take their son with him.

"Miss Saigon" is the sixth longest running show in Broadway history. It received 11 Tony Award nominations in 1991 and won three of them. It has been performed in 13 countries in eight different languages and has been seen by more than 28 million people worldwide. The show features a number of wildly popular numbers including "The Movie in My Mind," "Sun and Moon," and "The Last Night of the World," among many others.

When "Miss Saigon" first came to Atlanta a number of years ago it was performed at the Atlanta Civic Center and featured a helicopter landing on stage. This new production will be performed in the magnificence of the Fox Theatre and is sure to thrill and enchant audiences during its week-long run.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. through Saturday with matinee performances at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and a 7 p.m. performance on Sunday evening. Tickets pries range from $20-$55 and are available at the Fox Theatre box office, any Ticketmaster location or by calling 404-817-8700.
