Villages Amphitheater to take audiences to "Casablanca" By MICHAEL
BOYLAN "Casablanca" was released in 1942 and was a hit with critics and audiences alike. The film won three Oscars; Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay and is a mainstay on the top ten lists of nearly every film critic under the sun. "Casablanca" is a must see movie and if you have never seen it, you can see it at The Villages Amphitheater in Fayetteville on Saturday for free. The film stars Humphrey Bogart as Rick, an American ex-patriate and owner of Rick's Cafe Americain, a bar in Morocco, during the height of World War II. Many of the people in Casablanca are in between countries, trying to escape the Nazis. One man that needs to get to safe ty is Victor Laszlo, a leader of an underground resistance movement, and his lover, Ilsa, played by Ingrid Bergman. It just so happens that Rick and Ilsa have a romantic past together. "Casablanca" also stars Claude Rains as Capitane' Louis Renault, Peter Lorre as Guillermo Ugarte , and Paul Henreid as Laszlo. Even if you have never seen the film, it is very likely that you are familiar with some of the most famous lines including "Here's looking at you, kid," "Round up the usual suspects," and "Play it again, Sam." Interestingly enough, it is reported that that line is never actually spoken in the film. Go see "Casablanca" for yourself and find out. The gates will open at 8 p.m. and Southern comedian Gary Claxton will open the show There will also be prize giveaways and lotsof fun planned for the pre-show festivities. "Casablanca" will start at 9 p.m. and concessions will be available through Chick-fil-A. Visitors are encouraged to bring their owns blankets and chairs. For those out there who were rained out from seeing "The Wizard of Oz," the film will be shown Thursday, July 17 at 9 p.m. with a costume contest and magician Ken Scott warming up the crowd.
