Swimming awards presented next week

The Southside Seals masters swim team will present its top annual awards in a special ceremony Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Kedron Aquatic Center in Peachtree City.

Billy Jamerson and Julia Redmon have been named this year's recipients of the Fayette County Swimmer of the Year award, given annually to the most outstanding male and female swimmers for the last swimming season. The award is open to swimmers who are residents of Fayette County and members of USS, high school and recreation teams based in Fayette County. The selection is based on the accomplishments of those swimmers in the pool, classroom and community. Winners receive a plaque and their names are added to a master plaque displayed at the home pool of the Southside Seals.

Peter Junkins, Stephen C. Dodd and Niki Van't Wout are this year's inductees into the Fayette County Swimming Hall of Fame. This honor recognized lifetime achievement by swimmers, coaches and officials as residents of Fayette County or as members of a Fayette-based team. Members of the hall receive an award plaque and are listed on a plaque displayed at the home pool of the Southside Seals. No more than four individuals can be elected to the hall in any given year.

After the awards ceremony next week, there will be a short presentation on plans for a new aquatic complex in Fayette County that will allow the expansion of recreational and competitive aquatic programs within the county.
