Indians finish second in state By MONROE
ROARK
A spectacular baseball season ended Tuesday for the East Coweta Indians, who finished second in the state after losing the third game of their AAAAA championship series Tuesday to Colquitt County. The 6-3 win by the Packers at Ike Aultman Field in Moultrie gave the Indians a 29-8 record on the season. Colquitt County, the second seed from Region 1-AAAAA, finished 30-9 and won their second state championship (the first came in 1997). East Coweta stormed through the postseason after finishing as the third-ranked team in Region 4-AAAAA. The Indians swept Glynn Academy, Lee County, Pope and Redan to reach the final round. Colquitt County, on the other hand, got a good look at teams from this area in the playoffs, as three of their series wins were against Jonesboro, McIntosh and Fayette County. The Packers also defeated Harrison in the quarterfinals. The championship round started Friday, but rain stopped play almost as it started. The weather did not allow play to resume until Monday. Colquitt County won the first game of the series 3-2, but East Coweta came back for a 7-3 win and a split, forcing Tuesday's deciding game.
