Enchantments abound in FCFT's "The Secret Garden" By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Author Frances Hodgson Burnett once said, "When you have a garden, you have a future." For the characters in her novel, "The Secret Garden," the future looks gloomy and bleak until a long-neglected garden is brought back to life. Fayette Coweta Family Theatre will present a musical adaptation of Burnett's beloved novel at Sams Auditorium June 12-15. The story focuses on Mary Lennox, played by Fayetteville resident Caitlin Wade, a child orphaned in India after her parents die. She is brought back to England to live with her Uncle Archibald, played by Evan Stitt. Archibald is a dour man who is still grieving over the death of his wife and is distraught about the ill health of his son, Colin, played by Phillip Davis. Mary discovers the garden and with the help of Dickon, a young worker at the house, played by Damien Haas, and Colin, the garden bounces back to life and the family is healed. Burnett was born in England and emigrated to Tennessee at the age of 15. Her first writing job was for magazines and she eventually moved on to writing romance novels. In addition to "The Secret Garden," Burnett wrote "Little Lord Fauntleroy" and "Sara Crewe," which was rewritten as "A Little Princess." This production of "The Secret Garden" features a very large cast, with some actors playing more than one part. The show was adapted from the novel by Tim Kelly, book, and Bill Francouer, music and lyrics. The show will be performed at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, June 12 and 13, at 3 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 14 and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 15. Advance tickets are $7 at the Peachtree City and Fayetteville libraries, Shenanigan's Toys in Peachtree City and The Senoia Coffee House.
