The Soccer Centre in Fayetteville has announced the summer soccer league schedules for both youth and adults. The Summer Adult League kicks off June 16 and plays through Aug. 8. The Summer Indoor Youth League for Muppets, U7, U8 and U10 recreational teams will run from June 2 to July 26. The all-new Summer Blast 6v6 Outdoor Soccer League for U10 Developemental, and U12, U14, U16 and U19 Open players will be held from Mid June through July. No games will be played the week of July 4.

The Wendell Coffee Golf Center in Tyrone is hosting a 2003 Summer Break Junior Golf Camp, designed to teach children the basics of golf and how fun the sport can be. Sessions will be held every week through Aug. 14, and all camps run Monday through Thursday.

Each junior will receive different instruction according to his or her level of play. Skills to be covered include the set-up, the swing, the pitch and chip shots, the sand shots, the putting stoke, and how to hit the woods. The head instuctor is PGA apprentice Sean Coffee.

Lunch, drinks and prizes are included. Parents may drop their kids off as early as 8 a.m. if needed, and each day's session ends at 2:30 p.m.

The Our Lady of Mercy Athletic Department has announced its Summer Sports Camps schedules. Lee McDermott, head baseball coach, will have the Mercy Baseball Camp June 9-12. Alan Gordon, head football coach, will have the Mercy Football Camp June 23-27. Clay Cushman, head girls basketball coach, will have the Mercy Girls Basketball Camp June 24-27. The Fayette County Summer All-Star Basketball Camp, for boys and girls who have completed grades 2-8, will be held at the Fayette County High School gym. Session I is June 16-20 and Session II is July 14-18. Cost is $140 per session. Camp hours are Mon. - Thurs. 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and Fri. 8:30 a.m.-noon. Sandy Creek High boys basketball coach Maurice Triche will direct a basketball camp June 9-13 at the school's gymnasium for boys aged 8-14. Litterial Green, the University of Georgia's all-time leading scorer and a former NBA player, will be the camp's lead instructor. Hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Cost is $150. The Soccer Centre in Fayetteville will host 2 separate weeks of Summer Youth Soccer Camps this year ­ June 9-13 and June 16-30. The camps will be for boys and girls from Muppets (4-6) through 14 years old. There will be Muppet Camps from 9 a.m. to noon and also both full and half day camps for the older players.

The camps will be run by Charlie Morgan, Director of The Soccer Centre. Charlie holds both a USSF "A" license and a National Youth License. The emphasis will be on learning proper technique within the framework of fun activities and small-sided games.

International Soccer Camps U.S.A. will host a week-long camp July 7-11 at the Glenloch soccer fields in Peachtree City. Morning sessions (9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.) are available for ages 5-7 and full-day sessions (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) for ages 8-15. Cost is $95 for morning sessions and $145 for full-day sessions. The Tyrone Recreation Department is offering soccer camps, full-day and half-day, for various age groups June 16-20 at Handley Park.

The half-day camps are 9 a.m.-noon (ages 5-8) and 5:30-8:30 p.m. (ages 5-8 and 9-12). Fee is $108. The full-day camp, for more advanced and more serious players, is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (lunch from noon-1 p.m.) and costs $165. Each player receives a free ball and T-shirt

The Tyrone Recreation Department is offering Pee-Wee Tennis classes at Shamrock Park each Monday in July. Sessions are from 9-10 a.m. beginning July 7 and running through July 28. Cost is $25. Call 770-487-4694 for more information.

An hour of yoga will be offered each week from July 9-Aug. 27 by the Tyrone Recreation Department. Classes are from 7-8 p.m. in the basement of the Tyrone Police Department. Cost is $80. To register, call 770-487-4694.

The Peachtree City Recreation Department will be offering a Judo/All Sports Camp at the Kedron Fieldhouse and Aquatic Center the week of June 16-20. This camp is designed to enhance those skills already learned for existing students and to provide two months worth of instruction in one jam-packed week of martial arts for beginners. In addition to learning Jujitsu and Judo, campers will have optional swim time, gym time, games and friendly competitions for all age groups. This camp is for all skill levels, even those who have never done martial arts before. The fee is $150 and David Wojcik, a black belt in Jujitsu, will be giving the instruction.

The Peachtree City Recreation Department will be offering a Volleyball Camp at the Kedron Fieldhouse and Aquatic Center the week of July 7-11 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. This camp is for girls in grades 6-9 who are interested in learning the game of volleyball. This camp will provide instruction in the fundamentals of passing, setting, spiking, serving and blocking. Individual skills will be stressed and the importance of teamwork will be taught. There will be an optional swim time each day of camp and the fees include a new volleyball for each participant. The fee is $125 per person. Coach Erik Peterson will be coaching this camp.

The Lightning soccer club in Fayetteville is hosting two weeks of instructional camps for players 5-18 years of age. Run by Lightning's staff of professional coaches, the camps will instruct players in the basic skills needed to succeed in soccer. The first week, June 23-27, is for players ages 5-16 and will focus on skill development. The second week, July 7-11, will be a striker/goalkeeper camp open to ages 9-18, with players being taught specialized skills for their positions. Summer baseball clinics are being conducted throughout the summer, sponsored by Hit & Run Batting Cages in Fayetteville. Sessions are 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Thursday and cover hitting, pitching and catching. Cost is $89, with a $25 deposit due at signpu. Space is limited to 20 kids per week.
