Fayette Community Hospital to hold blood drive Fayette Community Hospital Auxiliary and the American Red Cross will host a Blood Drive Thursday, June 12, from noon-5 p.m. in the Community Room at Fayette Community Hospital. Every two seconds, someone in America needs blood. Every day, 34,000 donations are needed in the United States to help save the lives of cancer patients, accident victims, and children with blood disorders, among others. One pint of blood can help save as many as three lives. "Giving blood can be done on the way home from work or while reading the newspaper, yet only five percent of the eligible population currently gives blood," said Eileen Shaw, president of the Fayette Community Hospital Auxiliary. "We are proud to partner with the American Red Cross to encourage all citizens to do their part to help those in need." As a result of the growth and aging of the American population and with medical advances requiring more blood for advanced treatments, surgeries and traumas, the current demand for blood products is growing at a much greater rate than supply. Fayette Community Hospital encourages community and surrounding-area residents to take part in this safe and simple way to benefit those in need. Eligible donors must be at least 17 years of age, weighing a minimum of 110 pounds. Please call 770-719-7098, the FCH Auxiliary office, to schedule your appointment. Walk-ins are welcome; however, appointments will be honored first.
