Pitts attends conference in England Fulton County District 2 Commissioner Robb Pitts was among a small group of Americans who attended a conference in England on "The Impact of the Media on the Politics of Our Time," last weekend. Pitts' and fellow delegation members joined counterparts from Great Britain, Canada, and throughout Europe. The Southern Center for International Studies co-sponsored the conference in conjunction with the Ditchley Foundation of England, and has held similar conferences since 1985. The events are open by invitation to senior leaders in the fields of politics, business and industry, academia, the military, and the media. Lord Birt, former Director General of the BBC, chaired the conference. Among the other attendees were: Tessa Jowell, Britain's Secretary of State for Culture, Media, and Sport; former US Senator Wyche Fowler; Dr. Robert Rabinovitch, President/CEO of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation; Clive Soley, a member of British Parliament; and, Kathleen Hall Jamieson, Dean of the Annenberg School of Communication and Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania. Pitts has an extensive background in international affairs. He played a key role in presenting Atlanta's Olympic bid to the International Olympic Committee. Pitts has also participated in many cultural exchange programs, and has worked closely with Georgia's Consular Corps.
