Dance Contempra performs in Peachtree City this weekend
Dance can be traced back from the beginning of time. It has been and is still used to express happiness and sadness, as well as, for ritualistic and liturgical purposes. The parent of classical ballet is Baroque dance. It grew and evolved when choreographers began to experiment with lines and placement as the need to keep the audiences interested grew, with that need, eventually, the Pointe shoe was introduced. The strength talent and training needed with pointe work continued to wow audiences for many, many more years. Today dance continues to evolve, from classical ballet into contemporary, classical jazz into funk and hip-hop, classical tap into hoofin and rhythmical. Dance companies all over the world are introducing new ideas and inspiration from New York City, San Francisco to American Ballet theatre and Atlanta Ballet Company. This weekend, audiences will witness the evolution of dance. Dance Contempra will honor the classical, while embracing the contemporary as they present "Evolution." The show will run Friday, May 30, at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, May 31, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12 and free for children under the age of four. Dance Contempra is located in Braelinn Village Shopping Center, 544 Crosstown Dr., Peachtree City. 770-631-0460.
