Fairgrounds welcome some of country music's best and brightest By MICHAEL BOYLAN
Three of country's greatest singer/songwriters, John Berry, David Lee Murphy, and Lee Roy Parnell, will be painting the town of Fayetteville red this weekend with The Paintin' the Town Tour. The show will take place at the Kiwanis Fairground on Goza Rd. on Saturday, May 31. In addition to the concert, the gates will open at noon and visitors will get to peruse an arts and crafts show. There will also be a Funland area for kids featuring a moonwalk, clown jump, dino jump and slide. Pepsi's Jeff Gordon Race Car will also be on display. The concert grounds will open at 5 p.m. and the opening act, The Bottom Dollar Band, begins at 6 p.m. John Berry grew up in Georgia and built a fan base in the Atlanta area before heading to Nashville in 1992. He had his first number one single in 1994 with "Your Love Amazes Me". He followed with more Top 10 releases, such as "You and Only You", "Kiss Me in the Car", "Change My Mind", and "Standing on the Edge of Goodbye". In 2002, he released Christmas Live. Look for another live recording, "Acoustic Songs and Stories," to come out this spring. Country rocker David Lee Murphy moved to Nashville in 1983 and enjoyed moderate success as a songwriter for artists like Reba McEntire, Doug Stone and Chris Ledoux. In 1994, Murphy's song "Just Once" was featured on the "8 Seconds" soundtrack. It was a hit and got Murphy his own record deal. His song "Party Crowd" was the most played song in 1995 and was followed by the number one "Dust on the Bottle" off the album "Out With A Bang," which was the best selling debut album by any male artist in 1995. Other notable singles are "The Road You Leave Behind" and "Everytime I Get Around You." A new record deal for Murphy is on the table with a release later this year. Lee Roy Parnell is one of the music industry's top guitar and slide players. He made his trek to Nashville in 1987 and became a success by blending Delta blues, roadhouse rock, Texas swing, Southern boogie and gospel. This award winning and Grammy nominated artist has played on records by Steve Wariner, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Trisha Yearwood, Delbert McClinton, Joe Ely, and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Eleven top ten and four number one records, including "Love Without Mercy," "I'm Holding My Own," "When A Woman Loves A Man," and "On The Road." He is currently writing and recording the next record. With a combination of six Number One hits, three Grammy and four CMA nominations among them, fans can look forward to an evening of top notch entertainment. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Parking is $5 per carload and spectators need to bring their own chairs or blankets to set up on the grassy field in front of the stage area. No coolers or pets are allowed. A concession area with food will be available and Pepsi will be on site to offer cold drinks. Phone 770-412-9170 for more information.
