Landmark tops Temple, heads to Homerville By MONROE
ROARK
The Landmark War Eagles are on the road this week, with a doubleheader today at Clinch County High in Homerville after winning 11-1 over Temple Saturday to reach the Class A state baseball quarterfinals. Tim Perkins, coming off a six-week layoff due to an injury, pitched five strong innings for the win. David Yates came on for an inning of relief, and the game was called because of the 10-run rule. "He [Perkins] really came through for us," said coach Matt Skinner, who kept Perkins under 65 pitches. "We wanted to see how he would do and how healthy he was." Perkins got a big lift when Landmark jumped on Temple starter Tim Young for three runs in the first, then went up 6-0 by the third inning. "That was a big boost for us," said Skinner, noting that Young beat Landmark in the first game of the series. The Landmark hit parade was led by Tyler Tidwell, whose three hits included a bases-clearing double and a triple, and Miles King, who also banged out three hits. Dylan Hanes hit a two-run homer, his third in two games. Landmark is now 16-8-2 and will play a 4 p.m. doubleheader today in Homerville. Game 3 is tomorrow, if necessary. (To get to Clinch County High: Take I-75 south to the Hwy. 82 exit at Tifton and go east to Pearson. From there, take Hwy. 441 441 south about 28 miles to Homerville. Once in town, just past the airport, you will see the high school. Take the next left, go to the end of that road and take another left, and you will see the baseball field.)
