Feinberg Recognized by Community Health Charities of Georgia Dr. Bruce Feinberg, CEO of Georgia Cancer Specialists, was recognized for his professional and charitable efforts recently at the Community Health Charities of Georgia's 5th Annual Recognition Event. The awards ceremony was held April 27 at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center. CHCG presented Dr. Feinberg with the Health Advancement Patient Services Award for his commitment to provide unique medical services for cancer patients. Dr. Feinberg, who practices at the GCS Rockdale office, was instrumental in creating integrated patient care services at Georgia Cancer Specialists by combining the expertise of medical and radiation oncologists, hematologists, nutritionists, and social workers in one specialty practice. "Cancer patients and their loved ones require so much more care and kindness than can be given in an oncologist's office," said Dr. Feinberg. "It is only through the efforts and energies of committed volunteers and agencies like the Georgia Cancer Foundation, Bosom Buddies, and other health charities that these needs can be met." GCF Executive Director Brenda Horne and Bosom Buddies of Georgia Director Vicky Castleberry nominated Dr. Feinberg, who serves on the board of directors of both organizations. "Dr. Feinberg is an extremely innovative and skilled physician as well as a valuable member of the governing bodies for both nonprofit agencies," said Horne. "We wanted to recognize his ongoing commitment to cancer patients and the community." CHCG created this event in an effort to award individuals and organizations who have made a difference in the health and quality of life of Georgians. The organization provides funding to 82 local health charities, including GCF and Bosom Buddies. Georgia Cancer Specialists is the largest private oncology/hematology practice in the Southeast and a leader in advanced cancer treatment and research. The practice offers community-based medical oncology, radiation oncology, and hematology services and is the first private oncology practice to also provide a full range of support services for patients in Georgia, including nutritional counseling, pain management, wellness counseling, and home health coordination. The GCS research department, whose focus is bringing targeted cancer therapy to communities, is the first in Georgia to offer Phase I clinical trials, the most novel cancer therapies available. GCS has 19 offices, 31 doctors, and over 325 support staff members located in the metro Atlanta area and Macon, and provides care through approximately 130,000 annual patient visits.
