Helpful hints for graduates By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Go boldly to that new world, full of new experiences and ideas. Just don't forget to do your laundry on a regular basis and throw old food away. Remember that college, for the majority of you going to college, is to prepare you to get a job when you graduate. Therefore, major in something that will help you get a job. There is not much need for philosophers who minored in Sanskrit. A good thing to do after you graduate from high school is to sleep. Store it all up because you will be staying up very late, a lot, very soon. Don't go too crazy, otherwise you might not make it back to sane again. You will see many examples of these types at most of this country's colleges and universities. They are either squatters or teaching assistants in film schools. Use this time to grow as a person. If you think about it, you could always work harder, treat people better and do more to be a more well-rounded person. It doesn't happen overnight, but it never happens if you don't ever try. A few things you need to understand in the real world: how to balance a checkbook, how credit cards work and how to convince your parents to give you money when you have no money in the bank and a hefty credit card bill. Take the time to meet new people. Join clubs, take classes, sit around a coffee bar and talk to the people who sit near you. The friends you make in this part of your life, will be your friends for a long time. If you're lucky and not a complete jerk. If you are living in a dorm room, you may want to rethink the bunk bed/loft concept. Yes, there will be more space, but there are a number of situations that will come up where you won't want someone above or below you. Oranges are a good scource of Vitamin C, which helps keep away scurvy. (Hey, it was going to be Only you can prevent forest fires.) Never forget the good times you had in high school but never think that it never gets any better.
