Due to a series of developments that very few people in Fayette expected, the county has been shut out of the state soccer semifinals on both the boys' and girls' sides.

The McIntosh Lady Chiefs, ranked first in the entire nation in some polls, lost 3-1 to Parkview Saturday night. At the same time, the Starr's Mill Lady Panthers, last year's state co-champion in AAAAA, fell to Pope 2-1 on penalty kicks.

Parkview eliminated both McIntosh teams, beating the boys 2-1 Friday. The Starr's Mill boys were knocked out by Kennesaw Mountain with a 4-3 loss on penalty kicks.

In the girls semifinals, Parkview will face Roswell, who defeated East Coweta 4-2, while Pope plays Brookwood, a 4-0 winner over Newnan. Those matches are tonight.

Kennesaw Mountain was scheduled for play Shiloh yestserday in the boys semifinals, with Parkview facing Duluth.
