Fayette's first Final Four representative in spring high school sports is in.

The McIntosh Chiefs boys tennis team won its quarterfinal round against Lowndes County Monday at the Glenloch courts in Peachtree City to advance to this weekend's semifinals at the Lincoln Tennis Center in Stone Mountain.

Phil Van Fossan and Stefan James won their singles matches for the Chiefs, and Osman Faruqi was leading when his match was halted. Joe Styga and Hoot Fisher won their doubles match, and Patrick Thomas and Francois Pienaar were ahead when their match was called.

The three wins clinched the team victory for McIntosh, making it unnecessary to complete the other two matches against a team that had to travel back to south Georgia.

McIntosh's semifinal match will take place Friday against an opponent undetermined by press time.

They could be joined in Stone Mountain this weekend by the Lady Chiefs, who were scheduled to host East Coweta yesterday afternoon in the state quarterfinals.

Both Starr's Mill tennis teams traveled to Colquittt County for quarterfinal matches yesterday. If they won, they will not play McIntosh or East Coweta in the semifinals because they are in opposite brackets. They only way they would meet is in the state championship.

Landmark saw its tennis season Monday in the state quarterfinals, as the boys' and girls' squad were defeated by Athens Academy.
