Soccer teams move to quarterfinals By MONROE
ROARK Due mainly to the dates of the games, the Starr's Mill Panthers boys soccer team was the first local squad to reach the state quarterfinals after Monday's 3-2 win over Windsor Forest. By the time you read this, however, there will likely be several other Fayette teams in the mix, as both McIntosh teams and the Starr's Mill girls were scheduled to take the field last night after this paper's deadline. The Panthers will host Kennesaw Mountain next Tuesday in the quarterfinals. Kennesaw Mountain defeated Centennial 2-1 to advance. The Fayette County Tigers saw their season come to an end Monday with a 4-0 loss to Glynn Academy. The Newnan Cougars also lost Monday, 1-0 to Benedictine, to end their season. The McIntosh Chiefs were scheduled to face Camden County yesterday. In A/AA tournament play, Landmark Christian lost 1-0 to Padelli last Thursday. On the girls' side, four games of local interest were on yesterday's schedule: Starr's Mill at Eagle's Landing, East Coweta at Glynn Academy, Newnan at St. Vincent's, and Warner Robins at McIntosh. All quarterfinal games are set to take place early next week, with semifinals and finals over Memorial Day weekend.
