The state baseball playoffs are set to kick off Friday, with three of the Georgia High School Association's five classifications represented by local team in the first round.

The Fayette County Tigers wrapped up their regular season with a 15-1 mark in Region 4-AAAAA play to grab the top seed in the region. The Tigers will host Effingham County Friday beginning at 5 p.m. If the teams split the twinbill, a 2 p.m. Saturday game will decide the series.

The Newnan Cougars, the runnerup team in the region who gave Fayette County its only region loss, host Camden County in the first round of state play. Third-seeded East Coweta travels to Glynn Academy, while fourth-seeded McIntosh will hit the road to face Wayne County.

In Region 4-AAAA, the Sandy Creek Patriots recovered from a 1-3 start to win 12 of 14, including eight must-win games in a row. They will face Cross Creek Friday in the first round of the state playoffs.

Landmark won Region 5-A and will host Lakeview Friday, with a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m. Our Lady of Mercy clinched the fourth spot in 5-A by winning three of four over the weekend, including a doubleheader sweep Monday. The Bobcats will travel to Athens to face Prince Avenue Christian this weekend.
