Metro Rose Society readies roses for annual show
The South Metro Rose Society has presented an annual rose show for the past 17 years. This year's show, their 18th, will feature a competition, a class on rose arrangements, displays of a variety of rose speciamens and more. The event will take place Saturday and Sunday, May 17 and 18. The rose show is in conjunction with the Fayetteville Main Street Art Show. The rose is the national flower and the South Metro Rose Society is one of over 400 local clubs affiliated with the American Rose Society. The South Metro Rose Society was formed in 1980. The club's objectives are to promote the growing of roses, conduct programs on rose cultivation and display. The club meets on the fourth Monay of every month in the Heritage Bank Community Room at 7;30 p.m. The have guest speakers and information on happenings locally and nationally. The annual dies for the club are $15 for an individual or $20 for a couple. The annual show is in accordance with American Rose Society rules, and features growers from all over the region. Though awards and ribbons are presented, the priority of the show is to share the beauty of roses with others.Over 500 roses will be entered by amateur growers. Among the many exhibits at the show will be specimens of hybrid teas, grandifloras, floribundas, old garden roses, miniature roses and more. There will also be a rose information display staffed by consulting roasarians, rose experts recognized by the American Rose Society. They will give advice to rose growers of all different levels for free. Admission to the show is free. The show will run from 1-4 p.m. each day at the Fayette County Primary School.
