cabinetmaker creates beautiful kitchens By ELLIE WHITE-STEVENS
Jovial and tall, Scott Vanecek looks comfortable in his own skin, comfortable around the power saws and stacks of custom cabinet materials. Cabinetry may well be in Vanecek's blood. "I was twelve years old when I started sanding doors," he said. Vanecek's great-grandfather and grandfather both owned cabinet shops. Locally, his parents founded Cabinets 4 You in Peachtree City in 1986. Since then, the Vaneceks have provided quality cabinets to local homeowners and builders. "We specialize in kitchen remodeling," he said. "We had one lady who had her house, built in the 1960s, moved from one lot to another. The floor in her kitchen was two and half inches lower from one end to the other. We built cabinets with level countertops that go all the way to the ceiling, and fit perfectly." In order to have that kind of precise fit in a less-than-perfect situation, Vanecek relies on his professional designer, detail-oriented Sherry Starowicz. With her degree in design, Starowicz started out in nursing, and also holds a master's in health education. The kind of exacting standards found in quality healthcare are what Starowicz offers in cabinets. Before customers have their work done, she thoroughly surveys their needs, desires, what they don't like about the locations of things in their current kitchen. Starowicz will even want to know whether the primary cook is right or left handed. She knows her business. "Cabinets 4 You offers personal service, and we service what we sell," she said. "It's individualized customers always talk to me. It's not like a home center. We custom-build quality cabinets. We have our own on-staff installers. We deliver on time." Just what is on time? "We build a job in about four weeks," Starowicz explained. "A bathroom vanity might be made in two weeks. "The structure of our pricing also sets ups apart from a home store," she continued. "We price by the job. They price by the foot. Pricing a cabinet by the foot is like pricing a car by the pound. You can't do it. It's not accurate. Price depends on the materials leaded glass doors, finished interior, corbels (decorative brackets, flutes, rosettes. You get what you pay for." "We can meet any price range, whether budget-conscious or high-end," added Vanecek. Starowicz prides herself in creating not only beautiful kitchens, but spaces that are work efficient. In designing, she follows National Kitchen and Bath Association guidelines for making the kitchen work triangle (stove, fridge and sink) save her clients time and trouble. With her experience and the expertise of the Vanecek family behind her, Sherry Starowicz tries to take the mystery and hassle out of kitchen remodeling. "It takes about an hour when a customer comes in to figure out what they want," she said. "I show them our portfolio and showroom samples. It opens their eyes to the possibilities."
