County honors Millians Some 60 people turned out last week to honor long-time county employee and former commissioner James Millians at the Temple Avenue Recreation Complex. Those gathered praised the life and actions of Millians, noting that children and recreation had been two of his top priorities. Coweta County Administrator Theron Gay noted that Millians had been not only a long-time county employee and district commissioner, but had been a decorated war hero as well. "Mr. Millians has many major accomplishments in his life. Some of them for the good of our nation and coming at great personal cost," Gay said. On August 7, 1954, Mr. Millians came to work for Coweta County in Public Works where he worked until he retired Dec. 31, 1985. During his tenure with the county, Millians worked in maintenance and road maintenance and did an excellent job for the county. In 1991, Millians was elected and served a four-year term on the County Commission, providing honest and thoughtful leadership for the citizens of Coweta County. Millians was always interested in youth, and worked to improve recreation opportunities throughout our community. He has seven children, 15 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren. There are over 70 acres in the Temple Avenue Recreation Complex. Millians Field was the original softball field. The field has been totally reworked and new amenities added.
