Helping kids understand government

The theme of the 2002 County Government Week (April 6-12), is "Coweta Cares for Kids." As part of Government Week activities, School Resource Officer Michelle Murray with the Coweta County Sheriff's Department took time Wednesday morning to talk with children attending the Spring Break Day Camp at the Coweta County Recreation Department. Officer Murray spoke about gun safety, bicycle safety, home safety, and other topics while interacting with the children. Officer Murray not only talked to the children, but also answered numerous questions that came to the minds of the youngsters concerning the topics being discussed. Concerning safety issues, home fingerprint kits were handed out to the day camp attendees. These kits will allow parents to record fingerprints at home and also keep other vital information about the child in the event such information is ever needed. Earlier last week, Coweta County District Five Commissioner Robert Wood talked to the day campers about the importance of county government and the children are being encouraged to participate further by doing posters or essays on how "Coweta Cares for Kids."
