Eastside student is Senoia police chief for a day

Cody Davis go the thrill of his life early yesterday morning.

The 11-year-old Eastside Elementary School student was picked up at school by Senoia Police Chief Chuck Cannarella and transported to Senoia's City Hall where he assumed his duties as police chief for the day.

Davis was picked for the honor after his essay was selected as best in the class.

"I really look up to police officers. I like the way they have responsibilities for everything they do," Davis wrote.

The student's first order of business was being sworn into duty by Mayor Dianne Cleveland. After that, Chief Cannarella said he had a busy day planned for Davis.

"We're going to do some patrolling and look at police reports," he said.

Canarella also planned to show Davis some of the court documents the department deals with on a daily basis and then circle the city's historic neighborhoods to make sure they're safe.

Davis headed back to school at 1 p.m. yesterday, but his day wasn't complete.

He spoke to the Senoia Optimist Club last night and will be a special guest at the City Council meeting Monday night.

Davis is very adamant in his views of police officers.

"I appreciate the people who are trying to do their best to save our country and our world. If I had enough money to give every person who is risking their lives to save us, i would give them a lot of money," he said.
