CCSU athletes have local ties Some local athletes continue to perform well at the collegiate level, as evidenced by reports from two events last weekend. The CCSU men's golf team shot a final round of 298 last Saturday to finish with a two-round score of 598 and place eighth in the Peach Belt Conference Golf Championships at the Pinecrest Country Club in Lumberton, N.C. Freshman Jimmy Beebe of Peachtree City placed 37th overall and fifth among the Lakers with rounds of 81 and 78. Junior Jess Shirley of Newnan was third on the team and tied for 26th in the tournament with rounds of 74 and 76. The Lakers now await word on whether they will be chosen to compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional May 6-8. The school's track teams competed Saturday in the Univerty of Alabama-Huntsville Invitational, with freshman Heather Krehbiel of Peachtree City placing fourth overall in the women's 1500-meter run with a time of 5:06.44, and ninth in the 3000 meters at 11:13.21.
