Speeding golf carts almost always driven by teens

I was sorry to read of the golf cart accidents involving 15-year-old drivers. It does seem that these were accidents waiting to happen.

My husband and I use the trails daily as walkers, bike riders, and cart drivers. This gives you a perspective of each position. We were understanding that golf carts are supposed to yield to walkers, so that is what we do.

Whenever a cart approaches at top speed with no attempt to slow down, it is almost always a teen driver. Many of them are quite friendly but seem oblivious to the idea of slowing down for dogs and walkers or even the carts that must try to move over.

These young people are probably good citizens otherwise and may even be honor students. The point is that they don't seem to realize that the trails are to be shared with many, and even a little golf cart going at a rate of 15 mph can do damage.

Hopefully, parents will train their children to be safe drivers when they are allowed to drive alone and that peer pressure will not affect their judgment. These trails are the best part of Peachtree City. Keeping them safe and clean should be a priority for everyone who uses them.
