Rep. Scott to be featured speaker David Scott, Georgia's U.S. Representative from the newly created 13th district, will be the featured speaker at the South Fulton Chamber of Commerce Business Forum April 17. This will also be the first Chamber event at the new Georgia International Convention Center on Camp Creek Parkway in College Park. Congressman Scott, who served in the Georgia legislature for 28 years before being elected to Congress, is a member of the influential Financial Services Committee, the Capital Markets and Housing Subcommittees and the Agriculture Committee. He has gained a name for himself as a "diplomat', and a "consensus builder". He is a moderate "Democrat that even Republicans like", according to a recent newspaper article. His colleagues have so much confidence in his leadership abilities, Congressman Scott was elected to serve as Region Whip of the district that includes Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. His victory in the primary was a surprise to some in that he won on the first ballot in a very crowded field with 55 percent of the total. Most observers tend to predict a run-off election when there are so many candidates, but Congressman Scott skillfully used his consensus-building skills to pull away from the field. He took the general election comfortably with 59 percent of the vote. The 13th district is one of two new districts in Georgia and encompasses part of Fulton, Clayton, Gwinnett, DeKalb, Rockdale, Henry, Newton, Walton, Fayette, Butts and Spalding counties. Tickets for the Business Forum are $15 for South Fulton Chamber members and $20 for non-members. Please make your reservations to Patsy Dodgen at 770-964-1984. Please have your reservations made no later than April 15.
