Bank robber arrested in Union City

Special Agent in Charge Theodore Jackson of the Atlanta Division of the FBI announced last week the arrest of David Michael Schott, age 28, of Jacksonville, Fla.

Schott was arrested by the Union City Police moments after robbing the First Community Bank in Union City.

Schott entered the bank brandishing a 12-gauge pump shotgun at approximately 12:35 p.m. April 2.

He fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and was confronted in the bank parking lot by a lone Union City Police Officer. The officer chased Schott into a nearby wooded area where he was quickly captured and all the robbery loot recovered.

At the time of the Union City robbery, Schott was already wanted in a two-week string of five bank robberies in Jacksonville and Gainesville, Florida. Schott was identified as the suspect in the Florida robberies on March 27, 2003, after evidence of one of those robberies was discovered in a Stockbridge motel room along with the lifeless remains of his girlfriend, Marsha Ann Lanford.

Investigators determined that Lanford died of a drug overdose approximately 24 hours prior to the discovery of her body.

Schott had fled the motel room leaving Lanford's body and evidence of one of the Florida bank robberies behind.

Schott currently is charged by the FBI with one count of armed bank robbery.
