Twin Lakes residents descend on Senoia council By JOHN
THOMPSON Senoia's potentially largest development got approval of its conceptual site plan Monday, but not before a contentious discussion among lawyers and council members ensued. Developers of the Twin Lakes subdivision on Rockaway Road descended on the City Council en masse Monday night to answer questions about their development. The new developers of the project have cut the planned housing units in half, from 1,200 to 600. Their concept for the plan was unanimously approved by an ambiguous motion by the Planning Commission, which led to the lengthy discussion. In its approval, the Planning Commission outlined issues that would have to be addressed before a preliminary plat could be approved, such as a traffic study and greenspace configuration. The developers went ahead and supplied the information to the city, which then led to more confusion, since the city's engineer did not have time to examine it. "I'm not comfortable with voting on this until our paid consultants have signed off on it," said Councilman Bob Hannah. But Newnan attorney Litt Glover, who represented Twin Lakes, said those issues should not be addressed until its time for the preliminary plat to be approved. "We just want to be treated like everybody else. Those items aren't required for conceptual approval. They should be addressed at preliminary plat time," Glover said. But the City Council maintained they wanted to hear what their engineer and planner had to say about the issue. Finally, city attorney Drew Whalen recommended the city approve the concept with the same recommendations as the Planning Commission. He also added the issues would be addressed at the preliminary plat approval stage.
