Updated fishing regulations available

The 2003-2004 Georgia Sport Fishing Regulations now are available at www.gofishgeorgia.com or at all license agent outlets.

This guide provides helpful information such as color fish identification charts for both freshwater and saltwater fish, license purchasing information, contact information for WRD Fisheries Management Offices and WRD Law Enforcement Offices, trout stream listings, public fishing area information, state record fish listings and complete information about fishing regulations.

The cover of this year's regulations highlights the wide range of fishing opportunities that exist in Georgia. Images depict largemouth bass fishing at one of the nine WRD-operated PFAs, kids enjoying the timeless pleasure of pond fishing, trout fishing success on one of our four delayed harvest regulation streams and shared quality fishing time for red drum off the Georgia coast. There are truly so many places and so many ways to go fish Georgia!

The Board of Natural Resources sets Georgia's fishing regulations. The Board acts on recommendations made by WRDs and Coastal Resources Division's fisheries biologists and field personnel. Laws are set by the Georgia General Assembly.

Changes this year include:

The largemouth bass length limit at West Point Lake has been reduced to 14 inches.

A largemouth bass slot limit has been set for the new Bear Creek Reservoir in Jackson County. This 16-22 inch protected slot limit is designed to help promote trophy bass potential in that water body once the lake opens to fishing.

Several seasonal trout streams have been changed to year-round status. This will provide additional year-round fishing opportunities on streams in thirteen north-Georgia counties.

A 2.3-mile section of the Chattooga River in northeast Georgia has been added to the popular delayed harvest program.

Saltwater fishing regulation changes impacting red drum, whiting, and sponge crab are highlighted in the regulations guide.
