When one goes to Washington D.C., it is nearly impossible to see every thing the city has to offer. There are countless museums, landmarks, parks and memorials to look at and some of these marvelous places will have to wait until the next trip to the nation's capital. However, residents of Georgia currently have an opportunity to see some of the works from one D.C. museum at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum through May 11.

Portraits of the Presidents from the National Portrait Gallery features paintings, sculptures, photographs and renderings of all of our nation's presidents. The exhibit gives visitors a look into our nation's history and a sense of the personalities of our leaders. Some of the artists featured in the exhibit are Rembrandt Peale's portrait of George Washington, one of the last photographic images of Abraham Lincoln, Elaine de Koonig's portrait of John F. Kennedy and Norman Rockwell's portrait of Richard M. Nixon among others.

The National Portrait Gallery opened in 1968. It houses more than 1,200 pieces and is continually growing. The pictures are not just limited to the presidential years and often features pre- and post-presidency likenesses. The gallery also features rare medals with presidential likenesses and a collection of Time Magazine cover artwork.

The Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum is located at 441 Freedom Parkway in Atlanta and is open from 9 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 4:45 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, military and students and free for children ages 16 and under. Phone 404-331-0296 or visit www.jimmycarterlibrary.org for more information.
