Holy Week services at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City will include several special elements as Easter draws near. The community is welcome to participate.

Palm Sunday, April 13, begins the week with the Affirmation of Baptism of 32 eighth-graders become adult members of the congregation. That service begins at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. Traditional services are held at 8:30 a.m. and a contemporary service is at 11 in the fellowship hall.

Holy Wednesday, 7 p.m., April 16, will be observed in a liturgical "X" service, new to the congregation this year. Foot washing will be incorporated into worship for those who desire to participate.

Two services will take place on Maundy Thursday the term coming from a Latin word related to "Commandment," recalling Jesus' Great Commandment to make disciples of all the world.

The Lutherans' first Maundy Thursday service will be at noon, April 17, and will include Holy Communion.

In the evening, First Presbyterian Church and Christ Our Shepherd will join for worship at 7 p.m. at the Lutheran sanctuary at 101 Peachtree Pkwy. North. A 6:30 p.m. reception will precede the service. This is the third year the two congregations have worshipped together on Maundy Thursday.

Holy Communion will be celebrated, and at the end of the service, the altar will be stripped and worshippers depart in silence. Nursery will be provided.

On Good Friday, April 18, a Cross Walk will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Christ Our Shepherd and proceed to the picnic park just east of City Hall. A brief devotional will take place there. Area churches are invited to join in, as worshippers remember Christ's walk to Calvary.

At 8 p.m. on Good Friday, the Christ Our Shepherd chancel choir and instrumentalists will present John Rutter's "Requiem" as part of the Tenebrae Service, or Service of Shadows, ending in darkness like that of a closed tomb.

Easter Vigil will be held at Christ Our Shepherd on Saturday, April 19 at 7 p.m.

The church is at 101 Peachtree Pkwy. North. For further information, call the church office, 770-487-8717.
