BOYLAN
Easter will take place on April 20 but the Atlanta Civic Center will celebrate the holiday starting this weekend with the return of the Atlanta Passion Play. The Atlanta Passion Play takes audiences back in time 2,000 years to the time of Jesus Christ. The events of Christ's life are portrayed from the miracles that he performed to his crucifixion, resurrection and ascension. There are over 250 people in the cast and 750 people working on the production. Though the story remains the same, the script and music change each year. The Atlanta Passion Play also features a live orchestra, a beautiful sounding chorus, colorful costumes and sets and a dramatic use of lighting. The show is very popular with audiences around the world, as 43,000 people annually attend the Atlanta Passion Play. The show will be presented at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29 and 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 30. The show will then be presented Fridays through Sundays, April 4-13. Showtimes will be at 7:30 p.m on Fridays, 2 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays and 3 p.m on Sundays. Ticket prices range from $8-$18 and can be ordered by calling 770-234-8400. The Saturday, April 5 performance will be interpreted for the deaf. Children under the age of six will not be admitted to the show due to the show's length, the sacredness of the show and the vivid portrayal of Christ's death. |
