Whenever you really want something, there is always a price to pay. For some people that price is money or time, while for others it may be dignity or respect. For Seymour Krelbourn, Mr. Mushnik's nebbishy assistant in Starr's Mill's upcoming production of "Little Shop of Horrors," the price is blood.

"Little Shop of Horrors" is the off-Broadway musical that could. Written by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, the team that brought audiences the Disney films "Aladdin," "Beauty and the Beast," and "The Little Mermaid," "Little Shop of Horrors" opened in 1982 and ran for 2,209 performances before being made into a film starring Rick Moranis and Steve Martin. "Little Shop of Horrors" is based on a 1960 film by Roger Corman about a plant that brings success to a poor flower shop and a lovable loser but feeds on blood and wreaks plenty of havoc.

Starr's Mill's production is an effort that involves the entire fine arts department - band, chorus, drama and art. Ryan Turk will portray Seymour, while Carlee Baker will play Audrey, the woman Seymour is in love with and the namesake of the murderous plant. Tristan Farmer will play Mr. Mushnik, the owner of the flower shop and Craig DeLorenzo will play Orin, a sadistic dentist and Audrey's no-good boyfriend. Audrey II is a series of four puppets that will be maneuvered by Matt Drake and voiced by Paul Bowley.

"Little Shop of Horrors" also features a trio of girls that narrate and participate in the action. The trio will be played by Katie Culp, Kelli McCalla and Stephanie Smartt. The ensemble, consisting of Nick Abelein, Jessica Merrick, Tom Legare, Andrea Zonneveld, Michael Schneider, Scott Eldridge, Heather Lannan, Rikki Purdy, Laura Miller, Lora Farmer, and Chelcie Laggis, contributes to the play with several production numbers, including a creative black-light number.

Billed as family entertainment, "Little Shop of Horrors" satirizes B Movies, science fiction and musical theater. Tickets are on sale from any cast member or in the Starr's Mill High School front office. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students in advance or $8 for all tickets at the door. Doors open at 6:40 p.m. nightly with the show starting at 7 p.m.
