Fayetteville's Knutson family leaves for mission trip to Manila, Philippines

Fayetteville pediatrician Dr. Dale Knutson, his wife, Nancy, and his daughter, Amy, were recently commissioned as missionaries to the Philippines by Covenant Presbyterian Church. The Knutsons left earlier this month for Manila, where they will minister to the 'street children' there.

Knutson was introduced to hands-on medical missions during his early medical training at the Medical College of Georgia when he took short-term trips to South America.

After moving to Fayetteville to begin his pediatric practice 21 years ago, Knutson continued his interest in missions and became the chairman of Covenant's missions committee. In that capacity, he made trips to various parts of the world, visiting the church's missionaries and noting the widespread needs.

Several years ago, the Knutsons lived aboard the mission ship "Doulos," with Tyrone-based Operation Mobilization, and toured between Singapore and India for six weeks.

Dr. and Mrs. Knutson left March 18 for their mission trip and will be joined by daughter Amy after she completes the school year in June.

The Presbyterian Church in America has a number of missionaries in the area of eastern Asia.
