Our soldiers deserve hearty welcome when they return

The next war is about on us and it brings back a bit of nostalgia for us old WWII veterans. Some of the things are in our memory bank in indelible ink.

I believe it's time to dust off the old patriotic records and get started with welcome home music as we were greeted to when we came home. After being on an island in the Pacific for a couple of years we were already "Rock Happy" and the crowning moment was when we sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge and were greeted with all the yachts and bands and the bathing beauties sailing alongside welcoming us home. We knew then that it was worth defending our country. I am not sure these young people today are into standing up for the United States in times like this.

I would like the media to give the people who are fighting for us a real welcome home when they come back with the old patriotic songs of Kate Smith's "God Bless America" and the Andrew Sisters singing the "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," Patti Paige, Kay Star, Dinah Shore, and all the others who serenaded us in the come-home times. These times we will never forget and it's my prayer that the U.S.O. and the Bob Hope look-alikes will give them our hero's welcome. They will deserve no less.
