In 1895 Gugliemo Marconi invented wireless communication, which was the foundation for radio. Since then, the radio has been a technological companion for people around the world, offering information and entertainment. The Fayette County High School Select Chorus will celebrate Marconi's invention with their 26th incarnation of their annual variety show. This year's theme is "Listen to the Radio."

Following the format that one would find on today's radio stations, the show will feature love song dedications, talk shows, news and weather, request lines and the hits of yesterday and today. Some of the featured numbers will be "Pink Cadillac," "I'm a Survivor," "AM Radio," and many more. The Select Chorus will also present numbers from the Broadway musicals "Hairspray," and "Thoroughly Modern Millie."

The variety show is one of the biggest productions at the school, if not the biggest. Several departments lend their expertise to the show, from set design to the technical aspects that keep the show looking professional. The chorus, a mixed auditioned group of 11th and 12th graders, has been working hard on the show since the beginning of the year. In fact, they have even worked with a professional choreographer in New York.

The Select Chorus has had a typically busy year, performing at the Shorter College Feast of Carols, Georgia Music Educators Association in Savannah and St. Patrick's Cathedral and Trinity Church in New York. Add to that schedule their daily schedule at school, which for many members includes advanced placement courses and other clubs and sports, and it is amazing that they can even lift their feet as the school year nears its close.

"Listen to the Radio" will be presented at Sams Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Advance tickets, which can be purchased at Pam's Hallmark, By Invitation Only or by calling Janice Folsom at 770-460-3540, are $5 for students and $6 for adults. All tickets at the door will be $8.
