Overlook dedicated to late mayor By CAROLYN
CARY
The Rotary Club of Peachtree City has dedicated an overlook to the late Howard Morgan, a three-term mayor of Peachtree City. Moran and his wife, Dolly, built a home in Peachtree City in 1970. Arriving at a time when the population was 800, he saw tremendous population growth as well as the first paid city employees, the first city offices, the first policies and procedures for the Police Department, the adoption of the Standard Building Code, the city's first Sign Ordinance, the first July 4th celebration, the adoption of Peachtree City's master plan, the adoption of laws governing golf cars on the city's streets, the dedication of right-of-way for the Ga. Highway 54 bike bridge, and the establishment of the Peachtree City Library. Howard was also a loyal member of the Rotary Club of Peachtree City from 1971 until his death in 2001. In recognition of his service, it constructed, in cooperation with the Southern Conservation Trust, the Howard Morgan Wetlands & Nature Observatory. It is located on Flat Creek, South of Crosstown Road, in the Flat Creek natural area which is managed by the Trust. Rotary president Dale K. Phenicie presented Dolly Morgan with a plaque at its regular luncheon meeting. Son David flew in from California to join his mother for the occasion. Another son, Gregory, lives in Florida. This is the third project the Peachtree City Rotary has named for past presidents. The first one was a fishing dock named for the late Arnold Cheek, and the second one was an overlook named for the late Luther Glass.
