Moratorium will end By JOHN
THOMPSON The Newnan City Council's refusal to take action this week on Coweta County's plan for a study period and moratorium has effectively killed the plan. By a unanimous vote last month, the County Commission decided to study the growth, zoning issues and land use planning for six months. During the study time, new building permits and zoning applications would not be considered. The study suggestion was brought before the board by Commissioner Greg Tarbutton. A clause in the vote was the study period wouldl be deactivated in 30 days if municipalities in the county don't agree to also examine their zoning issues. "Since Newnan didn't take any action, the study period will end the middle of next week," said county administrator Theron Gay. Tarbutton stated that the county and its cities need the six month time period to jointly study zoning and land use issues, an area of concern raised at the recent Intergovernmental Retreat. Gay said Tarbutton would address the issue at Tuesday's 6 p.m. commission meeting.
