NCTC presents beloved tale of "Alice in Wonderland" By MICHAEL BOYLAN Newnan Community Theatre Company's Xtras and KidsPlay are joining forces to present "Alice in Wonderland." The show will run Saturdays and Sundays through March 23 and will give local audiences a whimsical combination of Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass." Lewis Carroll was born Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. Before he published the books featuring Alice he wrote three books on mathematics. Carroll loved logical puzzles and saw them as a great source of fun and humor. This is evident in several scenes in "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," including the Mad Tea Party. The two books were published seven years apart with "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" being published in 1865 and "Through the Looking Glass" following in 1872. Audiences are perhaps more familiar with "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" as it features Alice falling down the rabbit hole, meeting the caterpillar, attending the mad tea party, encountering the queen and determining who in fact stole her tarts. "Through the Looking Glass" features Humpty Dumpty and Tweedledee and Tweedledum and ends with Alice questioning what was real and what was not. The two stories have been blended together many times over as "Alice in Wonderland" has been staged countless times and has also appeared on the silver screen and television in animated and live action form. The theatrical version is always a treat for audiences as Carroll's fantastic characters come to life before your eyes. Their frenetic energy is contagious and Carroll's sly sense of humor is pleasing to both children and adults. Newnan Community Theatre Company's production will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday through March 23. Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors.
