A 9-year-old boy was in good condition Thursday while he recovered from a freak bicycle accident on the cart path near the western portion of McIntosh trail in Peachtree City.

Kevin Hill was injured nearly two weeks ago when he and a friend suddenly collided while they were pushing their bikes on the cart path, said Peachtree City Fire Chief Stony Lohr. As Hill fell to the ground, his throat struck the handlebar of his bike, causing an obstruction in his airway, the chief said.

"He sustained life-threatening injuries," Lohr said.

Crews responded to the scene quickly and were able to stabilize Hill until a medical helicopter could arrive to transport him, Lohr said.

Hill was in good condition Thursday at Egleston Children's Hospital in Atlanta, according to a spokesperson.

"Normally they're riding a bike and they fall off," Lohr said of the typical bike-related injury. "This was really a freak kind of thing to happen."
