Most local soccer teams get wins over soggy weekend

Though the fields were rather soggy last weekend, the local high school teams faced off against some region opponents, while others faced some stiff competition from teams around the state.

Fayette County's boys and girls faced Mundy's Mill on Friday and were very successful. The lady Tigers won 15-0 and got goals from Danielle Ashley, Laura Stewart,Sarah Oxford, Lena Watford, Lindsey Bass, Meghan Spalverio, Lauren Fetter, Rachel McBride and Jenny Ross.

The boys defeated Mundy's Mill 14-0. Alex Crawford, Trevor Mangan, and Jay Page scored three goals a piece. David Zak scored once in each half and single goals were scored by Bryan Collier, Bo Smith, Daniel McAdams.

Last Tuesday, the Lady Tigers tied Hardaway 1-1. McBride got the assist as she played a ball to Spalviero's head. Coach Sara Titus cited oustanding defensive play from Watford and Laura Lee. The boys faced carver, Columbus last Tuesday and won 9-0. McAdams had three goals, Ben Daniell scored twice and single goals came from Collier, Zak, Crawford and Carlos Moreira.

Fayette County faced Riverdale yesterday and will travel to take on East Coweta on Friday.

McIntosh's boys and girls hosted East Coweta on Friday. The Lady Chiefs won 10-0 and got goals from a number of players, including Brittney Jones and Katie Schulz. The boys defeated East Coweta 2-0 and got their goals from Daniel Hersey and Alex Achor. On Saturday, the Lady Chiefs defeated Lowndes 15-0. McIntosh's girls and boys faced Mundy's Mill yesterday. The Lady Chiefs will play at Chapel Hill tomorrow at 7:30 p.m., while the boys will be fof until next Wednesday when they play at Newnan.

Starr's Mill's boys and girls played at Parkview on Saturday and both teams lost 3-0. The Lady Panthers hosted Kennesaw Mountain last night and will host Milton at 6 p.m. on Friday. The boys will be off until Friday's game against Milton.

Sandy Creek's boys and girls played in the LaGrange Invitational over the weekend. The girls went 2-1, defeating Carrollton and Pacelli and losing to LaGrange, while the boys lost all three games.

The Lady Patriots defeated Carrollton 8-0 and got four goals from Katie Wilson, and one goal a piece from Nia Baker, Jenna Thomason, Malika Rajendra and Hilary Vernon. In their 9-0 win over Pacelli, Baker, Rajendra and Wilson each scored two goals while Thomason, Vernon and Stephanie Fletcher each scored one goal. Sandy Creek then lost to LaGrange 5-0. The boys lost to Carrollton 5-1, lost to LaGrange 7-1 and lost to Pacelli 2-0. Sandy Creek's boys faced East Coweta last night and both the boys and girls will travel to take on Lithia Springs on Friday.
