Good citizen cleans up road litter without any organization

Recently on my way home from a meeting, I noticed a lady removing trash from the right of way on one of our roads.

At first I drove past and continued on my way home. Shortly I realized that this was not an everyday occurrence, so I turned around and spoke with her for a while.

I learned that she was not participating in any organized group, rather she was just exercising good citizenship. She was removing trash that someone else deposited in front of her subdivision. She was simply interested in the appearance of the place that she lived.

This act of concern made me so proud to be a part of Fayette County. Citizens that perform services such as this without planning committees, or public acknowledgment but with a sense of purpose and pride are what make Fayette County great.

So, Mrs. Martiga Cole, my hat is off to you and I'm proud of you and proud that you live in Fayette County.

A.G. Van Landingham

Fayette County commissioner
