Local students semi-finalists for Presidental Scholars

Six Fulton County seniors have been selected as semi-finalists for the United States Presidential Scholars Program:

Royal A. Reinecke, Chattahoochee High School; Michelle P. Bulger, Centennial High School; Geoffrey H. Lemmond, Centennial High School; Gayathri N. Balasubramanian, Roswell High School; Michelle S. Kim, Roswell High School; and Eric A. Mintz, Roswell High School.

The Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by order of the United States President, to recognize and honor the nation's most distinguished graduating seniors.

In 1979, the program was expanded to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional scholarship and talent in the visual, creative, and performing arts. Finalists will be named in April.

Presidential Scholars are chosen on the basis of academic or artistic scholarship, leadership, and involvement in school and the community. Approximately 500 semi-finalists are selected and up to 141 Presidential Scholars are named annually.

Application is by invitation only.

In June, the finalists will be invited to Washington D.C. to participate in National Recognition Week, which includes enrichment activities and culminates with the presentation of the Presidential Scholars medallion during a special ceremony at the White House.
