Police Department overcrowded

Officials said Monday Fairburn's Police Department is a little too overcrowded and has caused severe space problems.

During Monday's City Council meeting, the council voted to approve relocation of the court and some of its related activities to the Incubator building.

It was made known by a recent evaluation of the Fairburn Police Department that there were severe space problems within the department. City councilmen concluded that the easiest, fastest, and most inexpensive way to solve the problem would be to relocate the court to the Incubator building.

The Incubator building has never been fully utilized, and for the most part, has sat vacant for some time, however, councilmen are proposing to remodel the large rear area of the Incubator for a court room.

This would open up space in the Police Department now occupied by the court room, two clerks and record storage for the court. It is estimated the entire relocation can be done for less than $20,000. Councilmen also approved the money for the relocation to be funded within the general operating budget.
