SCAT Claims Fifth Consecutive Divisional Title

The Southern Crescent Aquatic Team accomplished something no other team has ever done by winning its fifth consecutive divisional championship Feb. 7-9 at the Kedron Aquatic Center in Peachtree City.

The final standings for the top five teams are the following: (1) SCAT: 6,047 points; (2) Swim Macon: 3,260 points; (3) Carrollton Bluefins: 2,995 points; (4) Chattahoochee Gold: 2,319 points; and (5) Warner Robbins:1,922 points.

"More important than the team total was the effort put forth by every SCAT team member," said SCAT head coach Jamey Myers. "Based on seed times, SCAT wasn't supposed to do as well as the final score indicates. The competition swam well, but SCAT was outstanding. I'm really proud of all our swimmers."

Leading the way for SCAT with individual High Point Awards in their age groups were Bailey DeRidder, 10-and-under Girls; Nicole Roddenbery, 13-14 Girls; Zach Payne, 13-14 Boys; Brittany Stevens and Angela Gellatly, Senior Girls; and Joseph Redmon, Senior Boys.

Swimmers setting new team records were Jessica Heimann, 100 Breaststroke; Julia Redmon, 100 Freestyle; Brittany Stevens, 200 Butterfly; and Nathan Bernth, 25 Butterfly.

Also winning individual events for SCAT were Lauren Cartwright, Georgia Highsmith, MacKenzie Garrot, David Menchinger, Alex Harmon, Noah Copeland, Thomas Lucak and Billy Jamerson.

"Our relay teams were unstoppable," said Myers. "We won nine out of 20 relay titles and all the B-relays scored well. This truly shows the strength of our team."

Relay Divisional Champions were: 8-and-under Girls 100 Medley: Saharra Griffin, Haley Smith; Sydney Cartwright and Melissa Beall; 10-and-under Girls 200 Freestyle : Bailey DeRidder, Jessica Heimann, Kiersten Mossburg and Kristen Bohrer; 10-and-under 200 Medley: B. DeRidder, J. Heimann, Erica Pauly and K. Mossburg; 13-14 Girls 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle: Lauren Cartwright, Nicole Roddenbery, Casey DeRidder and Georgia Highsmith; 13-14 Boys 200 Medley: David Menchinger, Matt Manley, Zach Payne and Iain Ferguson; Senior Girls 200 Medley: Angela Gellatly, McKenzie Garrot, Brittany Stevens and Julia Redmon; Senior Boys 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle: Thomas Lucak, Billy Jamerson, Joseph Redmon and Kenny Jubb.

Swimmers finishing with 100 percent personal bests in all races were Jeb Beard, Casey Blanchard, Kristen Bohrer, John Daley, Kazuki Hamada, Keaton Hannon, Heather Jones, Alan Kim, Kevin Kim, Sarah Larson, Andy Lucak, Thomas Lucak, Peter Menke, Nicholas Muffler, Kelsey Pratt and SamChun Shimabe.

The swimmers who dropped the most time in each distance category were: 25 yards: Devin Holton, 14.41 seconds in the 25-yard Breaststroke; 50-yards: Alan Kim, 22 seconds in the 50-yard Backstroke; 100-yards: Alexa Cocker, 27.70, 100-yard Butterfly; 200 yards: Nichole Roth, 24.61 seconds in the 200 Freestyle; 500 yards: Peter Menke, 63.20 seconds in the 500-yard Freestyle; 1,000 yards: David Menchinger, 38.97 seconds in the 1,000 Freestyle.

Other swimmers who earned points for SCAT with at least one top-8 finish included: Bailey Cartwright, Samantha Currenti, Sydney Currenti, Katelyn Davis, Matthew Ferguson, Lindsey Flynn, Bailey Garrot, Cassandra Heimann, Heather Highsmith, Daniel Hughes, Jennifer Jones, Chris Lee, Lindsey Lochridge, Sarah Manley, Alex Menke, Bryan Mitchell, Katie Mitchell, Austin Pauly, Jessica Pratt, Kirsten Pretzer, Sarah Trapaga, and Alec Vasquez.

Rounding out the point scoring for SCAT with at least one top-16 finish were: Kenneth Bartholomew, Julie Glass, Christina Harding, Samantha Holton, Raleigh Hudson, Emily Kim, Savinien Leblond, Katie Mitchell, Marilyn Naughton, Grace Robertson, Erica Sayers, Jordan Schumacher, Patrick Skeebo and Julie White.
