Author speaks at library Feb. 27

As part of the ongoing Georgia Author Series, the Peachtree City Public Librarywill host Valerie Boyd speaking about her recently published book Wrapped in Rainbows: The Life of Zora Neale Hurston on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Floy Farr room downstairs at the library.

Boyd, an arts editor and book critic at the Atlanta Journal Constitution, has written several articles and essays about Langston Hughes which have appeared in several publications. Wrapped in Rainbows is her first book.

The book was published in August 2002 and was reviewed by the New York Times Book Review. In the review, writer Ann duCille said Boyd "gathered her material the old- fashioned way: she culled letters and other primary documents from archives, attics, personal holdings and halls of records around the country. Her biography demonstrates the critical role that letters, family papers and court records can play in excavating lives. The research is painstaking and thorough".

The book underscores Hurstons contributions not just to black writing but to American literature, critics said.
