Panthers and Tigers don't get results they were hoping for in state duals

The Fayette County High School wrestling team lost its only match on Saturday at the state duals meet at McEachern High School. The tournament format was a single eleimination style and the Tigers lost to Henry County 33-31.

"It was a good close match with lots of exciting individual matchups," said Coach Jim Bailey. "It just went the wrong way."

Winners for Fayette County included Thomas Lowery (103), Matt Kellerman (130), Stephen McElrath (135), Zach Stanley (140), Will Barnes (189), Chris Leslie (215) and Drake McCoy (275).

As for Starr's Mill's wrestling team, the Panthers met Jonesboro in the round of 16 and won 68-9 before meeting Parkview in the quarterfinal round and losing 33-24. Parkview went on to place second losing to state champion McEachern, while the Panthers finished in the top eight.

Fayette County High School will host the Area Tournament at 9 a.m. this Saturday and Starr's Mill and Fayette County are among the favoites to win this tournament.
