Well done, good and faithful servants!

By REV. JUSTIN KOLLMEYER
Pastor

A significant event occurs in our community today. Pastor Dumas and Tex (pronounced "Tech") Shellnut move out of their home here in Fayetteville to begin a new chapter of their lives in an assisted living community in Atlanta.

What a blessing they have been to so many! For over 50 years they have been a pastoral team with the United Methodist Church. Imagine the number of lives they have touched and blessed and enriched in all those years! Those of you who know them know their warmth and love and caring ways. They are gentle and good. They love The Lord and they love The Church.

To know Dumas and Tex is to know the best of disciples here on earth. To know them is to know the Savior through them. To know them is to see the fulfillment of Jesus' command that his people love others as He first loved them.

I mentioned a "new chapter" opening up for them. They are now a little past the days for "the joys of homeowning". They have come to a time when their energies will now be used for remembering and receiving. I know one thing for sure: the assisted living center where they will call home will be a much better place because of them.

Thank you, Dumas and Tex, for your eagle-like spirits. Thank you for making this world and this community a much better place by your presence. Thank you for being our neighbors and our friends, our pastor and our examples.

We honor you this day. We thank God for you! We pray for the peaceful and joyous living out of your days. God be with you 'til we meet again!

Simply put, "Well done, good and faithful servants!" God loves you! And so do we!
