Southside rezonings, annexations approved

The Fayetteville City Council voted Thursday night to approve the necessary rezonings and annexations to allow the southside master plan to move forward. Also approved were two development agreements relating to the property.

This comes nearly two years after the first proposals for the southside tract, along the Ga. Highway 92 connector between Ga. Highway 85 and Jeff Davis Road, were brought to the council. Thursday night's action also comes on the heels of about four months of work by the Southside Master Plan Task Force -- a group of city officials, local residents and developers working with an Atlanta consulting firm to devise the best possible overall plan for a site with multiple land owners.

A little over 53 of the approximately 260 acres in the plan were in the unincorporated county and had to be annexed into the city Thursday night. A variety of residential, commercial, office and Planned Community Development (PCD) zonings were approved for the overall site.

The development agreements also stipulate certain road improvements, including the proposed extension of the Hwy. 92 connector to Jeff Davis Road as well as intersection improvements at a number of locations.

The entire southside master plan will be examined in more detail in Wednesday's edition of The Citizen.
